GuppY users warning


Hello everyone,

We have come to know that GuppY users have been "approached" by mail or other means by individuals, associations or professionals who were not mandated by the GuppY Team or freeGuppY association.

Proposals have been made for their "help" to update, modify or create new sites using GuppY.
In some cases, non-professionals offered them to host on their server.

All this on a money-making purpose that can be thought inflationary!

It has to be kept in mind that when members of the GuppY Team freeGuppY association contribute directly, i.e. in GuppY users sites they have been given FTP and admin access, in these cases, transparency is full and no financial consideration is requested. Not even freeGuppY association membership!

Sometimes users who are pleased with our service, take membership to the freeGuppY association and/ormake a donation. We warmly thank those users who help the continued development of your favourite fish.

The accounts of the Freeguppy association can be accessed easily on the website http://asso.freeguppy.org.

These troubleshooting operations are conducted in two ways:

- Either we offer on freeguppy.org forum timely assistance to GuppY users who get stuck with their website.
- Or we receive on freeguppy.org a request for assistance through email or private message, and we decide if it can be met or not.

Regarding hosting, we recommend our partner Nuxit host that offers good service, engineers and skilled technicians and high quality infrastructure.
Shared professional hosting of this quality costs only a few euros per month. So it should not be overlooked..

Hosting is a professional activity that requires:

 - Extensive knowledge of networking, Linux or another OS in some cases.
 - Adequate infrastructure that does not suffer mediocrity.

For ten years amateur hosting has been tried by GuppY users and most experiments were to no avail. Those "hosters" went straight down and hosted fish drowned!

Everyone is of course free to seek help and shelter as they wish but to be forewarned is to be forearmed.

Hi all,

As I had suggested on the occasion of GuppY's tenth anniversary,  the latest version alpha of GuppY has been put under beta-tests for some time now and it primises to be a great vintage indeed.

Usual fault finders who keep criticising GuppY while enjoying its use will have to wait a little to try ans disparage this new version.

The same applies for the kings and queens, should I say the emperors ans empressesin the art of copy/paste who will have to wair for some time before they can practise their art.

As to the other users, they can start dreaming and get anxious until this outstanding version is made available.

I will no say more now (confidential défence*).

Next communication about this major version will be done when it's put under Release Candidate status.

Since the release of the first version of miniPortail on December 30, 2002, this patch is the 71nd updated version for download.
The date of this release is not entirely circumstancial, but a way to mark the 10th anniversary of GuppY, that means 10 years of a wonderful adventure.

Hello everyone,

The AGM of the Association freeGuppY is called for Friday, December 7, 2012 in accordance with our rather special bylaws, which are available on the association website: http://asso.freeguppy.org/

The AGM will of course be opened to all in a specialised forum on the site mentioned above, but only members up to date with their subscriptions shall have the right to vote and this for a period of fifteen days until Friday, December 21, 2012 included.

Members who have not renewed their subscription fees are invited to do so if they wish to vote at the AGM and/or be a member of the association or the Board. New members are also welcome.

With regard to the AGM, the right to vote is immediate upon receipt of payment and registration by the Treasurer. As it is possible to pay via Paypal, the transmission of payment of the fee can be very fast.

The unusual length of the AGM is explained by the complexity of managing our association as it is run entirely on the internet because AGM, Board Meetings and other office meetings cannot be held physically due to geographical dispersion of its members or potential members.

    - Financial report by our Treasurer Yves (Papinou) and request for approval of it.
    - Report and moral activity by the outgoing President (yours truly) and request for its approval.

We've started the renewal of memberships in freeGuppY association; if you wish to show how much you truly value our original and free spirited work, please renew your subscription for the new year, either to join the association or just keep in the shoal of Guppy supporters or just fill out the membership form found on this link.

The entire resource of the association comes from membership fees and donations from users of GuppY.

According to the decisions of the General Assembly, the amount of the annual fee shall be:
    - Five euros for individual membership
    - Thirty euros for membership as an association,
    - Forty five euros for a membership as a company.

Renewing your membership or membership freeGuppY association is required to participate in the General Assembly with voting power for a candidate in elections to the Board of Directors and vote in these elections.

Article 7 of the bylaws of the association states:
"The Association consists of active members to date with their annual dues. They are members of the general assembly with a right to vote. "

The patch_nc_4.6.20 fixes an XSS flaw, two vulnerabilities allowing code injection and three squeaks reported by Antoine Cervoise, a computer security expert.

The GuppY-Ed team  (GuppY Education site http://guppyed.org) main concern is to promote use of GuppY at school; we are pleased to announce together with the GuppY team the first demonstration turnkey GuppY site (v 4.6.19) in English and French languages.

GuppY is a web portal system powered by PHP that requires no database. It allows you to build easily a dynamic website of professional quality for free.

• admin_redac: allows to create rights for writers, but contrary to the original basic adjustments of GuppY, it allows precise control for each member of staff or pupil editing on the site. Thus a pupil will only get access to his own file, not putting at risk another collaborator's work. Moreover, a super-writer can supervise other writers' work.

• open_fiches: "open-cards"allows to create papers sorted in categories, with a common skeleton. It also enables to invite visitors, if so configured, to submit a paper to be published on the site.

• ajoute_menu and its fork:  can add twenty extra boxes to your site with pocssible activation of a "New" icon.

• quiz : The more recreational piece of the package! You will use it to create your own quizzes, involving your pupils into the game. Thus your visitors will be challenged to assess they knowledge and be registered into the Hall of Fame, in other words the  "winners' corner", if they do well enough!

Security Patches and version 4.6.18

Integration into GuppY of private groups has induced a number of disorders. Some vulnerabilities have still been detected in the version 4.6.17.

We therefore propose version 4.6.18 which fixes these flaws and some squeaks.
This version also includes some new features.

Installation of this version is essential for data security of private groups, and to control the registration of members.

Notre ami Hervé (RV), propriétaire du domaine de GuppYLand, qui n'avait plus le temps de s'occuper de son site pour l'instant, nous a proposé de le transmettre à l'association freeGuppY, ce qui a été fait il y a quelques temps.

Un grand merci à lui.

Dans l'intervalle, nous avons ouvert le sous-domaine guppyland.freeguppy.org à titre temporaire et une équipe a préparé le nouveau GuppYLand qui est en service depuis le 11 juillet 2011.

Les membres et administrateurs de cette équipe sont :

• Papinou

Qui ont réalisés un superbe travail que vous appréciez à sa juste valeur au vu du nombre d'oeuvres présentées par leurs auteurs et le nombre de visiteurs du site qui sont ensuite dirigés vers les sites des créateurs.

A partir de ce jour le nouveau GuppYLand a donc son propre espace et son nom de domaine. Ses administrateurs auront un outil plus puissant à leur service.

Cette A.G. est ouverte à tous mais seuls les membres à jour de cotisation ont un droit de vote.
 
De nouveaux adhérents peuvent s'inscrire avec droit de vote immédiat. Puisqu'il est possible d'utiliser Paypal l'inscription peut être très rapide.

L'A.G. de l'association freeGuppY est convoquée pour le 26 novembre 2011 conformément à nos statuts un peu particuliers et disponibles sur le site de l'asso : http://asso.freeguppy.org/
 
Cette A.G. sera bien entendu ouverte à tous dans un forum spécialisé sur le site indiqué plus haut mais seuls les membres à jour de cotisation auront le droit de vote et ceci pour une durée de quinze jours soit jusqu'au samedi 10 décembre 2011 inclut.
 
Les membres en retard de cotisation sont invités à régulariser la situation s'ils souhaitent participer aux votes lors de cette A.G et/ou être membre de l'asso ou du C.A.. Les nouveaux membres sont également les bienvenus.
 
En ce qui concerne l'A.G., le droit de vote est immédiat dès la réception du règlement et l'enregistrement par le trésorier. Comme il est possible de régler via Paypal, la transmission du règlement de la cotisation peut-être très rapide.
 
La durée peu commune de l'A.G. s'explique par la complexité de gestion de notre asso qui est administrée intégralement sur le Net faute de pouvoir convoquer les A.G., C.A. et autres réunions de bureau dans un même lieu physique du fait de la dispersion géographique de ses membres ou membres potentiels.

• Demande d'approbation du procès verbal de la dernière A.G.
• Rapport financier par notre trésorier Yves (Papinou) et demande d'approbation de celui-ci.
• Rapport moral et d'activité par le président sortant (votre serviteur) et demande d'approbation de celui-ci.
• Publication du résultat des élections du président et du bureau par le C.A.
• Transmission de la présidence à notre nouveau président et installation du nouveau C.A.
• Le mot et les objectifs de notre nouveau président
• Questions diverses.

We recommend installing this version 4.6.17 for the complete security of your private groups, deleting the file/private folder and using of a personal sub-directory in /file for private downloads.
Reading the file readme.html and tutorial on the use of private groups is essential.

Caution - As with any new version, remember to update your plugins, reinstall or do your forks again, revalidate your configuration pages.

The former GuppY international network has proved obsolete for all or part of the following reasons and cases:

   - Site inactive
   - Site vanished
   - Official website not respecting the copyright of GuppY
   - Webmasters who spend their time criticizing the project GuppY
   - Not active and direct collaboration in particular with regard to the direct transmission of updates to language files.
    ...

The GuppY Team decided to remove the approval of these sites and to delete their privileged links on freeguppy.org.

Guppy was born in France in 2003. Sites around the world who can identify with the charter that has been updated, can endorse it and then be included in the official resources of the GuppY Team.

To do this, webmasters who are concerned should usethe contact form available on translations.freeguppy.org.

Their applications will be reviewed within a reasonable time and a response will be sent.

In general, whether it be for this international network, or simply to send language files updated, the contact form mentioned above is recommended.

especially security flaws that were not detected during the beta testing.
